Springfield and Washington County officials recently hosted a group of elected officials from the Ukraine. This is the sixth tour over the past 4 years that SWEDA has partnered with the World Affairs Council to highlight our community to the world. The World Affairs Council of Kentucky and Southern Indiana (WAC) was for twenty years known as the Louisville International Cultural Center. It is a community-based non-profit membership organization created for the purpose of developing cross-cultural relationships among professionals and institutions in the Louisville area and their counterparts throughout the world, and to sponsoring educational programs on international affairs for our state and community.
In addition to being a World Affairs Council, the WAC is the Council on International Visitors for the state of Kentucky and for southern Indiana, and as such hosts hundreds of visitors to our area each year under a variety of governmental programs. The WAC has vast experience in developing professional programs, professional internship placements, individual home stays, and cultural programming. In addition, the WAC provides its own educational programming for both students and adults through its Global Education Network and its World Affairs Council speaker program, the Global Issues Forum. WAC has participated in the Open World Program since its inception, and is experienced in all types of professional and cultural programming for Open World Delegations.
The group met with Springfield Mayor John W. Cecconi and Washington County Judge Executive John Settles and other staff members to discuss economic development, tourism, and local government.
