The Lancaster Higher Education Learning Center hosted the third meeting of a newly organized economic-development group composed of nine officials from surrounding counties that will focus on regional economic growth.
The Bluegrass South Regional Economic Development Coalition toured Lancaster's Square, the Grand Theater and the Lancaster Higher Education Center before their meeting Friday morning, enjoying lunch at Mariachi's Mexican Restaurant later that afternoon. Judge-Executive John Wilson and Representative Lonnie Napier met with the group as well.
"The overall point of the coalition is to maximize our resources, contacts, and experiences as a regional economic development marketing coalition - pooling together workforce statistics, proximity to interstates, business assets, incentives, etc. to help promote our region in new ways to any business or venture interested in locating and investing in our communities," Garrard County Economic Development Director Nathan Mick said.
The coalition consists of Mick, Executive Director of the Lincoln County Economic Development Authority Arlen Sanders, Economic Development Executive for E-ON US (Kentucky Utilities) Bradley Sowden, Executive Director of the Harrodsburg-Mercer County Industrial Development Authority Drew Dennis, Executive Director Springfield-Washington Economic Development Authority Hal Goode, Executive Director of Team Taylor County Economic Development Authority Ron McMahan, President/CEO of the Danville/Boyle County Economic Development Partnership Jody Lassiter and Executive Director of the Marion County Economic Development Office Tom Lund and Blaine Staat of Casey County who weren't present at Friday's meeting.
"The coalition came together out of a conversation amongst Jody Lassiter, Hal Goode and me in Danville three months ago," Mick said. "Jody recommended broadening our regional partnerships and suggested expanding our dialogue with several additional colleagues in surrounding counties. We decided on a natural coalition within our region and moved it forward from there."
The BSREDC will be meeting monthly in various locations within the regional coalition's area. The first meeting was in Danville, the second in Springfield and the third in Garrard. The next meeting will be in June in Taylor County.
