The second quarter in our area saw some return to the workforce from the fourth quarter of 2008 and first quarter of 2009. Our country is far from seeing the economy making a big shift but speculation in the market seems to be on-going.
Kentucky officials are on the verge of pulling one of the largest economic development deals of the young century with their aggressive leap in the void of U.S. hybrid vehicle battery manufacturing. The news is expected this month (July) with federal officials announcing the prospective manufacturers. If this occurs, a consortium called the National Alliance for Advanced Transportation Battery Cell Manufacture, or NAAT-Batt, could be churning out large, high-tech lithium ion cells by late 2010 at the state of Kentucky's mega site in Glendale, just south of Elizabethtown. This type of facility could spin off not only new manufacturing facilities to our community but provide opportunities to our existing businesses in Springfield as well.

edition of our community magazine.
This magazine details our history, tourism, quality of life, recreation, education, agriculture, business and manufacturers. You will find these magazines in Springfield and Washington County at several locations but if you would like a copy, please contact us and we will mail one to you.
Finally, recruiting this past month lead SWEDA to Chicago for the International Plastics Showcase and meetings with consultants during that trade show. NPE 2009 is the world's largest plastics event held and over 2,000 companies exhibited. These venues continue to be a platform for SWEDA to market Springfield and Washington County to the world.
