ECTC Springfield Campus nearing completion!
The Springfield campus of the Elizabethtown Community & Technical College will open officially in January 2010. The facility is located in the Springfield-Washington County Commerce Center.
Washington County Employment Office re-locates to Downtown Springfield Courthouse Annex
The Springfield-Washington County Office of Employment and Training has moved to the "Historic" 1816 Courthouse Annex in downtown Springfield on the second floor of the Courthouse Annex in the former PVA office. The same employment services received previously will be available at the new location. Plans are to add services from the Adult Education Office and Resume Building classes from St. Catharine College and the new Springfield branch of the Elizabethtown Community & Technical College.

Bluegrass South Coalition hosts Consultant Luncheon at Maker's Mark Distillery
Bluegrass South Coalition, which SWEDA is a partner, recently held their first recruiting event at Marker s Mark Distillery in Loretto. City Offers Financial Assistance to Businesses
The city of Springfield is hoping to lure more businesses into downtown by offering an attractive bait. Through the Springfield Main Street Renaissance Program, the city is offering financial assistance to retail and service-oriented businesses to locate in Springfield's historic commercial district, which encompasses Main Street from Doctor Street to Walnut Street and Cross Main Street across from the 1816 courthouse.

INOAC Automotive in Springfield Receives BSSC Workforce Training Funds
INOAC Automotive in Springfield, KY will be acquiring an additional manufacturing process (consoles for Ford F-150 trucks) at its facility in Springfield. As a result, 20 employees who have been on layoff will be recalled by the company while also retaining 184 jobs for Kentuckians. The 20 recalled employees will require extensive training since they will be performing a different job than the one they left.

Future still promising for local economy
Hal Goode, executive director of SWEDA, points out that the workforce of the community and their employability go a long way toward a community bouncing back from tough times. Some of the "hot jobs" in the future will be in the healthcare industry, and training for many of those jobs is being offered locally at St. Catharine College.
